Kirsty Coventry came in as President of the International Olympic Committee with a clear plan: open dialogue, reform and new impetus for the Olympic Movement. In an exclusive interview with China Media Group, she outlined the first steps of her vision.
In an emotional interview with CMG said shortly after the ceremony that her first step would be to hold workshops with members IOCto jointly determine the direction of future Olympiads.
"Our job is to protect and strengthen the Olympic Movement. And the only way to do that is together," she said. She stressed that she would build on the legacy Thomas Bach, including the emphasis on unity in the motto "Faster, higher, stronger - together."
Coventry praised China's support for the Olympics and recalled the strong emotions of its Beijing 2008 race. She now plans to visit China soon to continue strengthening the global partnership.
