A recent poll shows that US President Donald Trump's approval rating after 100 days in office has reached the lowest level of any newly elected president in more than seven decades.
The survey was jointly conducted by ABC television, The Washington Post and market research and consulting firm Ipsos. The results of the poll, which were released on Sunday, showed that 39 % respondents approve of Trump's handling of the presidency, down 6 percentage points from February, and 55 % disapprove of Trump's presidency.
Remarkably, only 21 percent of respondents said they "strongly" approve of Trump's handling of the presidency, the lowest proportion since he took office, while those who expressed "strong" disapproval were about twice as many at 44 percent.
According to the survey, 72 percent of respondents said they believe Trump's economic policies are "very" or "somewhat" likely to cause a recession in the short term, and 73 percent said the economy is in bad shape.
Meanwhile, 53 percent of respondents said the economy has worsened since Trump took office, and 41 percent said their own financial situation has worsened.
More than 70 percent of respondents said they considered Trump's tariff policy to be a negative factor in price increases. On the issue of tariffs, 64 percent of respondents expressed no support for Trump's policies and 61 percent said they did not support the Trump administration's approach to the overall economy and relations between the United States and other countries.
According to the results of a separate CNN/SSRS poll released Sunday, after nearly 100 days in office, Trump's approval rating is 41 percent, down four percentage points from March and seven percentage points from the end of February.
Only 22 percent of respondents said they "strongly approve" of Trump's presidency, a new low, while the number of respondents who said they "strongly disapprove" of Trump's presidency is about 45 percent.
CNN reported that the reason for Trump's drop in economic ratings since early March is his tariff policy, which has caused stock market fluctuations and concerns about rising prices.
