Chandrikapersad Santokhi, President of Suriname, received an exclusive interview with CGTN during his visit to China.
China and Suriname have a 170-year history of people-to-people cooperation and 48 years of diplomatic relations. As the first head of state of a Latin American and Caribbean country to visit China this year, Santokhi said China and Suriname have historical ties that cannot be broken. He designated China's Spring Festival as his country's legal holiday and spent the Mid-Autumn Festival with local Chinese. He has repeatedly affirmed the enormous contribution of the Chinese to the economic development of Suriname. He enthusiastically praised the Belt and Road Initiative. He appreciated China for taking the lead and providing new development ideas to achieve global prosperity.
