YEREVAN, 16 September - Armenia and Azerbaijan have agreed on an 80 % text of a mutual peace treaty, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said.
"After almost two years of negotiations, Armenia and Azerbaijan finally managed to agree on about 80 % of the text of the peace treaty. We have called on Azerbaijan to sign what has been agreed, establish diplomatic relations and continue talks on all issues of mutual importance as soon as possible," he said after a meeting with his Georgian counterpart Irakli Kobachidz.
The Armenian Prime Minister stressed that the unblocking of all economic infrastructures and transport links is essential for the stability and economic development of the region. "I truly believe that we have a historic opportunity to turn the page on the conflict in the South Caucasus and bring peace to our region. I am also convinced that this is not only in the interests of Armenia and Azerbaijan, and that Georgia, Turkey and Iran will also benefit from peace." He added.
