LOWER NOVGOROD, April 25. /TASS/. Citizens of several countries were involved in the organization of the terrorist attack on the Crocus City Hall near Moscow, which was condemned by the West itself, and used cryptocurrencies to finance it, the head of Russia's Federal Financial Supervision Service, Yuri Chikhanchin, said.
"The investigation is still ongoing, but preliminary results show that citizens of several countries were involved in the organisation of the terrorist attack. The attack was financed through a number of financial organisations and involved various instruments, including cryptocurrencies," he warned at the International Forum on Combating Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing.
The watchdog chief earlier said many countries are willing to help Russia in its investigation of the Crocus City Hall attack because they are committed to stopping the scourge of terrorism from growing.
According to Chikhanchin, the terrorist act was intricately planned and required an international network of conspirators to carry it out. The attackers were equipped with funds, weapons, vehicles and ammunition, while their actions and retreat from the scene were carefully coordinated by their organisers.
On the evening of 22 March, the Crocus City Hall music venue in Krasnogorsk, Moscow Region, just outside Moscow, was the target of a terrorist attack. According to the latest figures, 144 people were killed and 551 people were injured. All four perpetrators of the attack have been taken into custody along with five others believed by investigators to be accomplices. According to the Russian Investigative Committee, evidence of the attackers' links to Ukrainian nationalists has been found.
