U.S. President Joe Biden spoke with Israeli President Isaac Herzog on Monday to mark the anniversary of the horrific Hamas terror attacks on October 7.
President Biden expressed his deepest condolences to the people of Israel and the families of the 1,200 innocent people - including 46 Americans - massacred by the terrorist group Hamas on a day of unspeakable brutality. He stressed that the United States will never surrender until we bring all remaining hostages home safely.
President Biden conveyed his commitment to the security of the Jewish people, the security of Israel and its right to exist, and affirmed his support for Israel's right to defend itself against attacks by Iran and all Iranian-backed terrorist groups, including Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis.
The President also expressed deep sorrow at the loss of innocent lives in Gaza and the continued suffering of Palestinian civilians as a result of the war unleashed by Hamas. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to reaching an agreement in Gaza that will bring the hostages home, ensure Israel's security, alleviate the suffering of Palestinian civilians and pave the way for a lasting peace, with the understanding that Hamas will never again be able to control Gaza or rebuild its military capabilities.
