From 22 to 24 October 2024, the BRICS Summit will take place in Kazan, Russia, attracting worldwide attention. The BRICS group, representing about 45 % of the world's population and a third of the world economy, focuses on the themes of equitable development, strengthening multilateralism and sustainable growth. This year's summit aims to empower developing countries and create fairer economic conditions.
The BRICS countries are pushing for reforms of the global political and economic system to better reflect the interests of developing countries. Russia's presidency prioritises cooperation in the areas of security, economy and cultural exchange. Among the summit's topics is the creation of a BRICS payment system that would increase efficiency and reduce transaction costs among member countries.
China plays a key role in this group, promoting the concept of "Belt and Road" and fostering shared prosperity in the global South. According to representatives of developing countries, China contributes not only by sharing its experience and know-how, but also by supporting infrastructure and economic growth in developing areas. The Kazan Summit will thus strengthen mutual cooperation and trust among BRICS members and offer new opportunities for the development of the Global South.
