From 22-24 October 2024, the BRICS Summit will take place in Kazan, Russia, highlighting the growing influence of the organisation, which today represents 45 % of the world's population and a third of the global economy. BRICS, comprising Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates and Iran, controls 42 % of the world's oil exports. The organization is currently in the process of expansion, with more than 40 countries expressing interest in membership.
The theme of this year's summit is "strengthening multilateralism and promoting global equitable development and security". BRICS aims to achieve sustainable development and prosperity through the cooperation of developing countries, which make up 85 % of the world's population. The aim is to create conditions for equitable development and strengthen the voice of the global South on the world stage.
One of the key themes will be the promotion of new BRICS payment systems to contribute to greater currency multipolarity and lower transaction costs. Discussions are also expected on strengthening cooperation in the areas of scientific progress, energy and tackling climate change.
China, as a major member of BRICS, plays a key role in promoting peaceful development and sharing experiences with other countries of the global South. Initiatives such as the "Belt and Road" have received widespread support and have helped improve living standards in many developing countries. China will continue to promote development and mutually beneficial cooperation within the BRICS and beyond.
