A BRICS summit is held in Kazan, where leaders issue a 134-point joint declaration, ranging from UN reform to global conflict resolution. BRICS members reiterated their support for a major reform of the UN, including the Security Council, to increase the representativeness of developing countries and improve efficiency. They also stressed the need for global regulation of artificial intelligence and reiterated their condemnation of terrorism in all its forms.
On conflict issues, BRICS expressed concern over the growing violence and conflict, particularly in the Middle East and Ukraine. They called for peaceful solutions through diplomacy and supported the creation of an independent Palestinian state within the 1967 borders. They also criticised the negative impact of unilateral sanctions on the world economy, which threaten economic growth and food security.
BRICS also advocated reform of international financial institutions and supported the establishment of a new investment platform within the New Development Bank to boost investment in BRICS countries and the global South. Another interesting proposal was the creation of a BRICS grain exchange, which could later be extended to other agricultural sectors.
