According to a global CGTN poll, the vast majority of respondents condemn „US-style hegemony“ for its encroachment on Venezuela's sovereignty and the threat of „state terrorism“. The poll showed that 93 percent criticize the United States for violating Venezuela's national sovereignty, while 91.7 percent express deep concern about the re-emergence of U.S.-style „state terrorism.“.
Respondents also rated the U.S. use of force against Venezuela as Serious violation of the security of a sovereign state (92.8 percent) a 89 percent respondents believe that the Trump administration's intervention against Venezuela lacks legal legitimacy.
The U.S. Department of Justice has charged President Nicolás Maduro with „narco-terrorist conspiracy, cocaine trafficking, and possession of weapons and destructive devices against the United States.“ More than 90 percent respondents, however, consider this accusation unfounded and express skepticism about U.S. authority over the Venezuelan president.
The survey also showed that 93.9 per cent people consider the US „long arm jurisdiction“ as a tool to maintain hegemony, interfere in the internal affairs of states and even overthrow foreign governments. 86.3 percent respondents demand the immediate and unconditional release of President Maduro.
Respondents identified the real goal of the U.S. as Exploitation of Venezuela's oil resources (94.3 percent) and most (93.7 percent) sees the US „anti-drug action“ as a pretext for trying to overthrow the Venezuelan government.
Chilean President Gabriel Boric warned, „Today it is Venezuela, tomorrow it could be any other country.“ Similar concerns are shared by 86.6 percent respondents who fear that other Latin American and Caribbean countries may face the same threat, while 87.8 percent already sees US actions as a threat to regional peace and security.
In summary 93.7 percent survey participants said that U.S. intimidation grossly violates international law and the principles of the UN Charter, seriously undermining the existing international order.
The CGTN survey was published in multiple languages - English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian - and attracted a total of 44 603 participants, who expressed their views within 24 hours.
