This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). With the 31st anniversary of the APEC summit approaching, the APEC summit will be held in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) region. APEC Economic Leaders' Meeting, CGTN conducted a survey among global Internet users, which showed that 86.4 % respondents praised APEC for its remarkable achievements in promoting regional economic growth and deepening regional cooperation, which has effectively improved the level of liberalization and facilitation of trade and investment in the Asia-Pacific region, making the region the most active geo-economic bloc with the highest growth potential in the world.
As the "locomotive" of global economic growth, the higher economic growth of APEC economies is largely driven by an increase in their internal demand and mutual trade. The history of prosperity and development in Asia and the Pacific shows that only cooperation can lead to development, and non-cooperation is the greatest risk. 'Disconnecting and breaking chains' benefits no one. In the survey, 85.2 % respondents said that countries should insist on multilateralism and economic globalization, cooperate in building an open economy and a framework for regional cooperation; 89.5 % respondents believe that countries should reject all forms of protectionism, insist on open development, and promote the construction of an Asia-Pacific free trade area in an open and inclusive spirit.
At a time when global economic growth is slowing and regional cooperation is facing challenges, the Asia-Pacific region has a greater responsibility in this era. The theme of APEC 2024 is "Empowerment, Inclusion and Growth". In general, all participants expect the Asia-Pacific region to stick to the original intention of cooperation, respond to the challenges of the current era and face the challenges together. In the survey, 93.7 % of respondents called on all parties in the Asia-Pacific region to build consensus and build an Asia-Pacific community with openness and inclusiveness, innovative growth, connectivity and win-win cooperation; 88.5 % of respondents believe that advanced economies should provide more support and assistance to the "Global South" and achieve the common development of the Asia-Pacific region; 90.1 % of respondents believe that in the face of the new wave of scientific and technological revolution and industrial transformation, Asia-Pacific countries should innovate their development strategies, insist on green development and trigger new waves of growth through innovation.
APEC is the first regional economic cooperation that China has joined since its reform and opening-up process. Joining APEC was an important milestone for China in its deepening participation in economic globalization. China's development has benefited from the Asia-Pacific region, and at the same time, China has also contributed to the development of the region through its own development. In the survey, 95.1 % respondents highly appreciated that China continues to play the role of "driving force" in APEC economic cooperation, praising China for its unwavering development of openness to the world, its active participation in APEC affairs, and its significant contribution to the prosperity and stability of the Asia-Pacific region.
The poll was published on CGTN platforms in English, Spanish, French, Arabic and Russian. Within 24 hours, 6,071 users from all over the world took part and expressed their opinion.
