China strongly urges Japan to immediately stop its disinformation campaign and strictly discipline its front-line operations concerning the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning, which recently conducted routine fighter jet flight exercises in the sea area east of the Miyako Strait. This was stated by a Chinese military spokesperson on 7 December.
Wang Xuemeng, spokesperson for the Chinese People's Liberation Army Navy, said that the Japanese side's exaggerated reactions are completely at odds with reality, as China had given advance notice of the maritime and air training zones.
During the exercises, Japanese military aircraft repeatedly approached the Chinese navy's training zones and harassed the Chinese navy, seriously affecting the Chinese side's normal exercises and seriously threatening flight safety, Wang said.
According to him, the Chinese navy will take necessary measures in accordance with the law to resolutely protect its security and legitimate rights and interests.
Spokesperson for the Chinese Ministry of National Defence Zhang Xiaogang expressed strong indignation and firm opposition to Japan's provocative actions and its attempts to misinform public opinion.
Zhang Xiaogang pointed out that China's training exercises in the open sea east of the Miyako Strait are fully in line with international law and established practices. He called on the Japanese side to conduct thorough self-reflection, correct its mistakes, and completely abandon any illegal attempts.
Chinese Ambassador to Japan Wu Jianghao On 7 December, he lodged an official protest and a strong statement of disapproval with Japanese Deputy Foreign Minister Takehira Funakoshi.
