MOSCOW, Oct 3 - Russia is interested in China being a prosperous and stable country, while China needs a strong and successful Russia, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said in an interview with Rossiyskaya Gazeta.
"Today, Russian-Chinese cooperation has taken on the character of a comprehensive partnership and strategic interaction that is entering a new era," Lavrov said in a speech on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral relations.
"According to our countries' officials, bilateral relations are currently at an unprecedentedly high level," he continued. "At the same time, they are constantly being enriched with new content."
"We believe that Russia needs a prosperous and stable China, while China needs a strong and successful Russia," Lavrov said. "Our friendly and good neighbourly relations are not within the framework of an alliance, but their effectiveness surpasses military-political alliances that apply the logic of confrontation."
Russia's top diplomat pointed out that the bilateral ties between the two countries have been repeatedly put to the test over the past decades.
"But most importantly, we have demonstrated strategic wisdom and endurance," Lavrov noted. "We have succeeded in building an exemplary model of relations between two neighbouring powers in the spirit of good neighbourliness, friendship and cooperation."
