Chinese Premier Li Qiang said on Monday that China supports international economic organizations in their important role in global governance, adding that China will actively fulfill international commitments commensurate with its capabilities and work with all parties to promote the sound and stable development of the world economy.
Li made these statements during a "1+10" meeting in Beijing with the leaders of 10 international economic organizations.
The theme of the meeting was "Building Consensus on Development to Promote Global Shared Prosperity," and Li had an in-depth exchange of views with New Development Bank President Dilma Rousseff, World Bank President Ajay Banda, International Monetary Fund Managing Director Kristalina Georgieva, and World Trade Organization Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, Secretary-General of the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development Rebecca Grynspan, Director-General of the International Labour Organisation Gilbert Houngbe, Secretary-General of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development Mathias Cormann, General Manager of the Bank for International Settlements Agustin Carstens, Chairman of the Financial Stability Board Klaas Knot, and President of the Asian Infrastructure Bank Jin Liqun.
Li said that at present, world economic growth lacks momentum and economic globalisation and multilateralism are facing obstacles and challenges, creating more uncertainties.
He called on all parties to increase their focus on development, to work together to create a peaceful and stable environment for development, to improve global governance, to maintain stable and unrestricted global industrial and supply chains, and to promote new drivers of economic growth.
Stressing that China is a firm defender of economic globalisation and multilateralism, he said that for decades, the Chinese economy has given a strong impetus to the world economy, and its development shows specific features. China's economy is supported by a system that ensures stable growth, has additional room to sustain growth and creates positive spillover effects, he added.
He pointed out that the underlying logic underpinning China's positive economic outlook remains unchanged, and that the overall goal and principle of benefiting the world remains unchanged - this is the greatest assurance that the Chinese economy provides to the world economy.
Li also expressed China's willingness to work with all parties to defend the basic norms of international relations and the multilateralist trading system.
The presidents of international economic organizations expressed their appreciation for China's significant development achievements, noting that China's positive economic outlook and its commitment to high-level openness have provided valuable stability and a strong impetus for world peace and development. They expressed strong confidence in China's economic transformation and future prospects.
All sides are ready to work closely with China to jointly defend multilateralism and globalization, prioritize development issues, promote free trade, increase support for developing countries, address global challenges such as climate change, promote inclusive global growth, and promote shared prosperity and sustainable development, they said.
