President Petr Pavel and the First Lady recorded a message wishing the citizens a Merry Christmas. Prime Minister Petr Fiala also posted his Christmas message on social networks.
"Just as the festive Christmas tables differ in homes in different parts of the Czech Republic, so do the customs and traditions we observe and the wishes we have. But I believe that we all have one thing in common. We want a Christmas in peace, quiet and surrounded by those closest to us. We want you to have the Christmas you want. Please help make those wishes come true." said the First Lady in a joint Christmas card posted by the presidential couple on social networks.
"This year we have had moments that were not easy, but which showed how strong and cohesive a society we can be. This was especially evident during the floods, when people once again showed a tremendous wave of goodwill and willingness to help each other when we are in a bind. Simply, solidarity and mutual support are values that we should feel not only at Christmas," said the president.
"We wish you a peaceful holiday season full of hope and mutual understanding, a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year," wished the presidential couple in conclusion.
Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala said he is spending the holidays at home with his family. "It's a moment when it's really quiet," he said, adding that people are not burdened with so many work duties and everyday worries.
