The Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa on Tuesday hosted a forum on how Africa can take advantage of the opportunities arising from China's openness, confirmed during the recent session of the Chinese parliament. The event was titled "China in Spring - Sharing Opportunities with the World".
In his keynote address, Shen Haixiong, Chairman and Editor-in-Chief of China Media Group (CMG), emphasised China's resilience and growth potential, including with regard to the five per cent economic growth target for 2025.
Ethiopia's Minister of State for Planning and National Development Bereket Fitsehatsion congratulated China on the successful conduct of the so-called Two Meetings and praised its technological progress, steady growth and commitment to sustainable development. He also reaffirmed Ethiopia's commitment to deepening cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative.
Fekadu Tsega, Director of the Ethiopian Institute for Policy Studies, highlighted the benefits of Chinese experience for Africa, particularly in the areas of industrialisation, artificial intelligence, e-commerce and digital finance.
Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Chen Hai highlighted China's ongoing efforts to strengthen economic and trade cooperation with Ethiopia, especially in agriculture, animal husbandry and infrastructure.
The dialogue, hosted by China Media Group, attracted some 70 prominent figures from Ethiopian politics, academia and media. The discussion focused on further deepening Sino-African cooperation.
