Fijian Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka gave an exclusive interview to China Media Group during his visit to China. Rabuka first visited China 30 years ago and today shared his impressions of China's development as observed during his ten-day visit to China.
He chose Malipo County in Yunnan Province to begin his second visit in 30 years. In 2020. Malipo, once one of China's poorest districts, has emerged from extreme poverty. Rabuka said, "We are in an area of great magnitude in this region: we have never seen the kind of change in Fiji that is happening in China."
The Pacific island nation's prime minister also visited the headquarters of Contemporary Amperex Technology Company in Ningdu, one of the largest manufacturers of lithium-ion batteries for electric vehicles in China. "China is way ahead of most of the world in new energy. We hope to accelerate the transition. We also have a lot of opportunities for hydroelectric power that we haven't tapped yet, and we want to develop these areas further instead of continuing to buy oil and gas," - Rabuka said. (M.Y.)
