České noviny - PRAGUE/BRATISLAVA - Czech-Slovak intergovernmental consultations will not take place in the coming weeks or months, the Czech cabinet does not consider it appropriate. Czech Prime Minister Petr Fiala (ODS) announced this at a press conference after a government meeting. He said the Czech Republic and Slovakia have a number of common themes that should be developed.
But there are significant differences of opinion on key foreign policy issues, he said. According to Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico, the Czech government has decided to jeopardise Slovak-Czech relations only because it is interested in supporting the war in Ukraine.
Prime Minister Fico responded to Fial's words by immediately declaring that the Czech government was welcome in Slovakia and that it would in no way disrupt relations between Czechs and Slovaks.
