At this year's China Development Forum 2025, the focus was on the key areas that foreign investors see as the most promising within the Chinese economy. In an interview with China Global Television Network (CGTN), Miguel Ángel López Borrego, CEO of German industrial group Thyssenkrupp, and Sir Martin Sorrell, founder and chairman of UK digital communications group S4 Capital, shared their views.
The growth of electric vehicles and the impact of artificial intelligence
Miguel Ángel López Borrego stressed that electric vehicle segment in China shows sustained growth and its momentum will continue in the coming years. China is today the largest electric vehicle market in the worldboth in terms of production and demand. Companies such as BYD, NIO or XPeng are gaining a growing share not only in the domestic but also in the global market.
In addition, López drew attention to rapid developments in artificial intelligencethat becomes a strategic pillar of industry and services. Investment in AI is increasing dramatically in China, with both the state and the private sector putting resources into research, applications and data infrastructure.
He identified the key driver of economic growth as domestic consumptionwhich has been recovering in recent months as a result of the stabilising economic environment and rising consumer confidence.
Global ambitions of Chinese companies: Latin America and Africa in focus
Sir Martin Sorrell, one of the most influential figures in global advertising and founder of WPP, now heads S4 Capital, a company focused on digital marketing and content strategies. In his speech, he stressed that Chinese companies should be more actively seek expansion in foreign markets.
He placed special emphasis on Latin America and Africawhere China is already a major trading partner. In Latin America, for example, China has overtaken the US as the largest trading partner of Brazil and Chile, while Chinese involvement in energy, infrastructure and digital technologies in these regions is also growing.
