PRAGUE - The fifth European Parliament elections began two hours after noon today in the Czech Republic. In the first hours after the polls opened, turnout varied, in some places it was as high as 10 percent, while in others it was in the lower single digits. In the afternoon, the presidents of most of the parliamentary parties and President Petr Pavel also voted. They hope for a higher turnout than five years ago, when 28.72 percent of voters chose the 21 Czech MEPs. Polling stations will close at 22:00 today. People will also be able to head to the polling stations on Saturday between 08:00 and 14:00.
