FBI statement: On January 1, at approximately 3:15 a.m. CST, a man drove a truck into a crowd of people on Bourbon Street in New Orleans, killing at least ten people and injuring dozens more. After hitting the crowd, he exited his vehicle and fired at local law enforcement. Law enforcement officers returned fire and the man was killed instantly. Two law enforcement officers were wounded and taken to a local hospital.
The man in question has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a US citizen from Texas. He was driving a Ford pickup truck, which was apparently rented, and we are trying to confirm how he got the vehicle.
An ISIS flag was found in the vehicle and the FBI is working to determine the subject's possible connection and affiliation to terrorist organizations.
Weapons and a potential IED were found in the subject's vehicle. Additional potential IEDs were also found in the French Quarter. FBI Special Agent bomb technicians are working with our law enforcement partners to determine if any of these devices are viable and will work to secure these devices. The individual in question has been identified as 42-year-old Shamsud-Din Jabbar, a U.S. citizen from Texas. A more recent photograph of Jabbar is attached:

The FBI plans to turn over the Bourbon Street crime scene to local authorities by tomorrow morning. Additional FBI resources, including victim specialists, are responding to assist victims and family members.
The FBI is the lead investigative agency and we are working with our partners to investigate this event as an act of terrorism. We're aggressively pursuing all leads to identify any possible associates of the individual.
The FBI has set up a digital tip line and is asking anyone with information or video footage of the incident to send it to www.fbi.gov/bourbonstreetattack or call 1-800-CALL-FBI.
Statement by President Joe Biden:
Since this morning, I have been kept informed by federal law enforcement leadership and my homeland security team, including Homeland Security Secretary Ali Mayorkas, Deputy Attorney General Lisa Monaco, White House Homeland Security Advisor Liz Sherwood-Randall, and the mayor of New Orleans about the horrific incident that occurred there last night. The FBI has taken over the investigation and is investigating the incident as an act of terrorism. I am grateful for the brave and swift response of local law enforcement, which prevented even more deaths and injuries. I have instructed my team to make every resource available as federal, state and local law enforcement agencies work diligently to get to the bottom of what happened as quickly as possible and to ensure that there is no further threat.
I will continue to receive updates throughout the day and will be able to comment as soon as we have further information. In the meantime, my sympathies go out to the victims and their families who were simply trying to celebrate the holiday. Violence of any kind cannot be justified, and we will not tolerate any attack on any of our nation's communities.
President-elect Donald Trump attack Linked by with illegal migration: "When I said that the criminals coming in are far worse than the criminals we have in our country, the Democrats and the fake media constantly refuted that claim, but it turned out to be true. The crime rate in our country is at a level that no one has ever experienced. Our hearts go out to all the innocent victims and their loved ones, including the brave police officers of New Orleans. The Trump Administration will fully support the City of New Orleans in investigating and cleaning up the aftermath of this act of pure evil!"
