RAMALLAH, Sept 11 - At least five Palestinians were killed in an Israeli airstrike on the West Bank town of Tubas, Palestinian health and security sources said on Wednesday.
Israeli military forces stormed the city and carried out a large-scale search operation to arrest wanted persons who were accused of being members of armed Palestinian factions, Palestinian security sources said.
Ahmed al-Asaad, the governor of Tubas, said that Israeli forces had sent large reinforcements to Tubas and the neighbouring town of Tamoun, and warned against continuing these operations against the Palestinian people.
Israeli army spokesman Avichai Adraee said in a statement that Israeli forces launched military operations in Tubas and Tamoun overnight today targeting the infrastructure of Palestinian armed factions as part of the ongoing campaign in the northern West Bank.
He added that during the operation, the plane attacked an armed Palestinian cell.
Israel launched a major raid in the northern West Bank on 28 August, saying the operation was aimed at arresting wanted persons and preventing future attacks against Israel.
According to the Palestinian Ministry of Health, more than 40 Palestinians were killed and more than 140 injured in the operation.
