PARIS, 5 May /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron said on Sunday that dialogue with Russia must be maintained. The president also said that the technical capabilities and range of Russian ballistic missiles threaten European countries.
"We are doing the right thing by leaving the door open for negotiations with Russia," Macron said in an interview with La Tribune. "Otherwise, we would be abandoning the international order and peace and security."
However, Macron also noted the need to pursue a policy of "strategic ambiguity" towards Russia.
At the end of April, Macron said in a speech at the Sorbonne University in Paris that Europe should be ready to build relations with Russia even after the conflict in Ukraine is over.
Macron also said that the technical capabilities, power and range of Russian ballistic missiles threaten European countries.
"If we are talking about Ukraine, the security of Europeans is at stake because this country is located some 1 500 km [over 932 miles] from our borders," the French president noted. "If Russia wins, it will only take a second and Romania, Poland, Lithuania and our countries will have no security."
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov has previously said that Russia poses no threat to anyone in Europe and hopes for a similar attitude towards itself.
