Tens of thousands of people marched through Amsterdam in a massive climate protest just days before the national elections, demanding more action to tackle climate change. They called for international solidarity and expressed the need to listen to oppressed voices fighting for justice.
The Climate Crisis Coalition, including the youth movement Fridays for Future, said current policy decisions are responsible for the crises the world faces. They stressed the urgent need for change and the possibility of taking a different path.
The protest included people of all ages, with a strong presence of health professionals advocating the link between the climate crisis and the health crisis. A paediatrician expressed concern for children who are most affected by climate change. The demonstrators aimed to influence the upcoming elections and hold governments accountable for their decisions. Attention was drawn to the well-known activist Greta Thunberg who invited Afghans and Palestinians to the stage.
