BUDAPEST, 5 July. Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has arrived in Moscow, where he intends to hold talks with Russian President Vladimir Putin on ways of settling the Ukrainian conflict, said Bertalan Havasi, a spokesman for the prime minister's office.
"Prime Minister Viktor Orbán came to Moscow as part of his peacekeeping mission. The head of government will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin," MTI quoted Havasi as saying.
On Friday, Orbán told Kossuth Radio that he would like to convince Ukraine and Russia to "embark on a long journey that can end in a ceasefire and peace talks".
On 2 July, Orbán visited the Ukrainian capital Kiev, where he met with Vladimir Zelensky and proposed that Ukraine declare an immediate ceasefire and negotiate with Russia. Following Orbán's trip, European media speculated that he might visit Moscow on 5 July. However, European Council President Charles Michel later said that Hungary did not have an EU mandate to negotiate with Ukraine and Russia.
