The by-election to the Senate has ended in constituency 60 Brno-City. Zdeněk Papoušek was elected Senator with 59.40 % and thus became the 22nd Senator ever to emerge from the first round of elections. The voter turnout was 20.62 %.
"Zdeněk Papoušek was supported by a total of 11 788 voters, while the runner-up, Karin Podivínská, with 21,92 % votes, was supported by 4 350 voters. The other candidates received between 5.81 and 2.67 % votes." She told Eva Krumpová, 1st Vice President of the Czech Statistical Office.
The highest interest in the elections was in the Brno-Ořešín district, where 31.36 % eligible voters turned out. The lowest number of voters, 17.40 %, was recorded in the Brno-North district.
A total of 5 men and 1 woman ran for the Senate. The average age of the candidates was 58.2 years. The youngest candidate was 46 years old at the time of the election, the oldest was 70 years old. Three candidates were without political affiliation, five of the six were residents of Brno.

Voting took place in a total of 122 districts and the processing involved not only the central workplace of the Czech Statistical Office in Prague and the regional administration in Brno, but also 11 collection points created at the offices of the municipal districts of the Statutory City of Brno.
Data from the first precinct were received by the Czech Statistical Office at 14.24, the last precinct was processed at 16.43. On Monday, 20 January, the results of the voting will be discussed by the State Election Commission and, once approved, will be published in the Collection of Laws.

Zdeněk Papoušek (born 10 December 1956 in Heršpice) is a secondary school teacher, sociologist and playwright. In his first Senate term from 2014 to 2020, he ran as a non-party candidate for the KDU-ČSL. After the death of Senator Roman Kraus (ODS) in October 2024, by-elections were called for January 2025, where he ran as a non-party candidate for ODS, the electoral party was a coalition of ODS, KDU-ČSL, TOP 09, STAN, Pirates, Greens and Fakt Brno.
