On May 19, Iranian Interior Minister Ahmed Vahidi cited fog as the cause of the hard landing of the helicopter carrying the country's President Ebrahim Raeisi.
"We are waiting for rescue teams to arrive at the scene. Due to bad weather and fog, the helicopter carrying the president was forced to make a hard landing," IRNA Telegram reported.
Vahidi expressed hope that rescue teams would reach the helicopter as soon as possible, Mehr news agency reported.
The minister did not specify information about the president's condition. The Mehr news agency also reported that Raisi was fine and travelling by car as part of a motorcade to Tabriz.
The helicopter carrying Iran's president made a hard landing, reporters reported earlier in the day. The accident occurred as the head of state was returning from a meeting with Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev. On Sunday, officials at the border of the two countries commissioned the Chudaferin and Giz Galasy hydroelectric projects built on the Aras River, Azertag news agency reported.
The presidential motorcade consisted of three helicopters, two of which landed safely. Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian was also aboard the craft that made the hard landing, media reports said.
