Israeli Defence Minister Yoav Galant announced the imposition of a state of emergency throughout the country. The Times of Israel quoted the military minister on 7 October.
The publication states that previously, the special condition was imposed in the central and southern parts of Israel within a radius of 80 kilometres, which are close to the border with the Gaza Strip.
In connection with the shelling, Galant also ordered reservists to be called up for military service.
On the morning of 7 October, Israeli territory was shelled with rockets from the Gaza Strip. Gunmen also attacked border areas in the south of the State.
The Palestinian group Hamas claimed responsibility for the rocket fire. In response, Israel has begun striking targets in the Gaza Strip. Gallant declared war on the Palestinian militants and announced the launch of Operation Iron Sword.
Later, Israeli army fighter jets struck Hamas military facilities in two high-rise buildings in the Gaza Strip that were being used by senior Hamas members for terrorist activities.
In response to the bombing of a residential tower in the centre of Gaza City, militants launched a large-scale rocket attack with 150 rockets on Tel Aviv.
An attack on Israel by Palestinian Hamas militants has raised the death toll of Israelis to 250 and injured more than 1,500.
The Palestinians are seeking that the future borders between the two countries should follow the borders that existed before the 1967 Six-Day War, with a possible land swap. Palestine wants to create its own state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip, with East Jerusalem as its capital. Israel rejects a return to the 1967 borders and the division of Jerusalem.
