Employers are afraid of the standard employment relationship
Czech MP Jan Skopeček (ODS) was a guest on Kuloáry Napřímo. He commented on the need for pension reform, the political culture in the country and said he thinks the opposition and the coalition will find common ground. He also discussed the benefits of giving notice without giving reasons. According to Skopeček, employers have no ambition to fire someone artificially, but it is difficult for them to find employees. He said the change would encourage more frequent traditional employment instead of invoicing or agency employment.
According to Jan Skopeček, the terminations without cause advocated by the Civic Democrats are not a danger to employees. "If the employer actually proceeded to terminate the employment without giving a reason, the severance pay would be many times higher. So in addition to unemployment benefits, the person would be secure for a number of months," said Jan Skopeček.
"What often happens is that the employer wants to part with the employee for some reason, because he sees a better candidate or he is not satisfied with the employee, his performance," described the Deputy Speaker of the House Jan Skopeček. Today, however, the Labour Code does not allow that.
Employers are therefore reportedly afraid to recruit people for standard employment and work with them in other ways, for example through an agency or on invoice. This, according to Skopeček, leads to greater uncertainty for employees.
He also spoke about the current situation in the Chamber of Deputies. "I consider it normal that the government is in power and that the current government majority wants to enforce the things it has in its program statement," He said Jan Skopeček.
"We don't see any effort on the part of the opposition to look for an alternative solution, to offer options on how things could look different," explained Jan Skopeček. In his words, the opposition has utopian ideas about pension reform, saying it is not needed.
