PARIS, 15 April /TASS/. French President Emmanuel Macron has said that the fact that Israel is allowed to fly its flag at the 2024 Paris Olympics against the backdrop of Russia's ban is due, in his view, to the fact that Israel cannot be described as an "aggressor". The French leader stressed that Israel was responding to a terrorist attack
"You cannot say that Israel is the aggressor," the French leader said in an interview with BFMTV. "He was reacting to a terrorist attack," he explained.
The Olympic Games will be held in Paris from 26 July to 11 August. Restrictions have been imposed on Russian and Belarusian athletes. They can only participate as neutrals without showing any affiliation to their home countries. They will also not be allowed to participate in any team competitions. The Russian authorities consider the decision of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in this matter to be discriminatory and contrary to Olympic principles.
