PRAGUE - The meeting took place on the eve of the parliamentary summit of the Visegrad Group, to which the Ukrainian representative was invited.
"We have invited President Stefanchuk to the V4 Summit in Prague because it is obviously important to remind some politicians that the brutal aggression in our neighbourhood was unleashed by Russia, whose criminal regime is responsible for the deaths of many thousands of innocent people," said the Chairwoman of the Chamber of Deputies. According to her, the Kremlin's propaganda is very intense and unfortunately finds fertile ground in Central Europe as well. "It is therefore essential to speak out publicly and clearly against its targeted disinformation campaigns again and again," added Ms Adamová.
The President of the Senate recalled that opinions on Russian aggression in Ukraine differed among the countries of the Visegrad Group, which, in addition to the Czech Republic and Poland, also includes Slovakia and Hungary. "But politicians are here to communicate with each other and to find solutions," Vystrčil said.
At Tuesday's meeting, the Visegrad Group prime ministers agreed that Russia's aggression against Ukraine is a gross violation of international law and that Ukraine needs help. However, they differ in their views on the causes of Russia's aggression against Ukraine and on the forms of assistance they are willing to provide to the invaded country. The Czech Republic and Poland are also providing military aid to Ukraine. Hungary and Slovakia do not share this position, but are prepared to contribute in other ways - humanitarian or financial
The President of the Chamber of Deputies reminded that the Czech Republic has long supported Ukraine's integration into the EU and NATO. "To this end, the Czech Republic has also taken a leading role in the community of like-minded countries of the European Union," Pekarová Adamová said. According to her, the systematic transfer of concrete experience between national parliaments also contributes to this.
The meeting of parliamentary representatives of the Visegrad Group, which the Czech Republic is chairing until the middle of this year, will take place on Thursday at the Liechtenstein Palace in Prague. The topics to be discussed will include mutual inter-parliamentary cooperation, energy security and migration issues.
