NEW DELHI, June 10 (Xinhua) -- Narendra Modi was sworn in as India's prime minister for a third consecutive five-year term in New Delhi on Sunday. Indian President Draupadi Murmu charged him with forming a new government.
Modi took oath at an official ceremony held on the lawns of the President's House in New Delhi. The swearing-in ceremony on Sunday was attended by several South Asian leaders, including leaders of Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal and the Maldives. Modi's third consecutive mandate is being described as "historic" or "rare", something only India's first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru has achieved so far.
In addition to Modi, a number of ministers, including those with full cabinet rank and ministers of state (junior ministers), were sworn in on Sunday.
