A vacuum cleaner, a large wall painting or a snowboard. Passengers also forgot such items on ČD trains during the past year. In the whole year 2024, 19,090 found objects were recorded. A total of 9,378 items were returned to their owners, while more than 4,400 other found objects were handed over to the local authority in accordance with the law. Czech Railways records all losses and finds on the website eztraty.cz.
Personal documents, wallets, mobile phones, keys, glasses or even hats are among the items found. However, during the past year, ČD train staff have also encountered forgotten items of a less common nature. For example, an office chair, a mountain bike, a tax return that had already been filled in, or a thesis that a student was taking to a defence were found. The fact that passengers on the national carrier's trains have a positive relationship with music is documented by the number of musical instruments found - from guitars to violins to, for example, a saxophone. A steady assortment of lost and found items includes walking sticks of various kinds - from walking sticks to wooden crutches, for example.
Of the total number of lost and found items, 49 % of them were claimed by the owners. 4465 found items were referred to the authorities of the municipalities in whose territory the discovery occurred. By law, owners have three years to claim the item, after which the found item becomes the property of the municipality. More than a thousand items had to be destroyed, usually perishable foodstuffs.
If a passenger forgets anything on a ČD train, we recommend contacting the ČD Central Customer Service as soon as possible by calling 221 111 122. Operators can contact the train crew directly and they will try to secure the lost item. All lost and found items can then be found clearly on the website www.eztraty.cz. The information is entered into the eztraty.cz system by the train staff, who can do so while the train is in motion thanks to a mobile device and the corresponding app it is equipped with. If, on the other hand, you find a lost item on the train, please contact the train staff, who will take the item from you and ensure that it is registered in the lost and found system.
