Netanyahu admits suffering of Gaza civilians due to Israeli strikes
Civilians in the Gaza Strip are suffering from Israeli attacks. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced this on 18 October.
"When Israel legally attacks terrorists, unfortunately, civilians also suffer. Hamas is to blame and must be held accountable for all civilian casualties," he said after meeting with US President Joe Biden.
Netanyahu stressed that Israel was trying to minimize civilian casualties and called for evacuation to safer areas of the Gaza Strip.
The day before, the Al-Ahli Al-Maadani hospital was attacked in the Gaga sector. According to the Gaza Ministry of Health, most of the victims were women and children and more than 800 people were killed or injured.
According to Netanyahu, the Israeli Defence Forces (IDF) were not involved in the attack on the hospital. On 17 October, the IDF said that the explosion of the hospital in the Gaza Strip was caused by a failed Palestinian Islamic Jihad rocket launch. The organization itself has denied culpability in the incident.
On the morning of 7 October, Hamas exposed Israeli territory to massive rocket fire from the Gaza Strip and also attacked border areas in the south of the country. On the same day, Israel began retaliating against targets in the Gaza Strip.
- October, the Israeli authorities decided to impose a total blockade on the Gaza Strip, cutting off electricity, water and cutting off food and fuel supplies. In the following days, the Israeli Defence Forces continued their attacks on the Gaza Strip.
The Palestinians intend to return the borders between the two countries to those that existed before the 1967 Six-Day War, with a possible exchange of territory. Palestine wants to create its own state in the West Bank and Gaza Strip and make East Jerusalem its capital. Israel rejects these conditions.
