The national congress of the KDU-ČSL 2024 elected a new presidium. Czech Agriculture Minister Marek Výborný became the party's chairman, winning 159 votes out of 288 cast in the second round of the election. Pavel Bělobrádek was elected first vice-chairman, with 197 delegates out of 279 votes cast. The other members of the elected Bureau were Monika Brzesková, Jiří Horák, Václav Pláteník and Eduard Hulicius.
"The new presidency represents a combination of some continuity but also change. At the same time, the election of the Bureau in the first round shows its strength. The new KDU-ČSL Bureau has set itself the task of succeeding in the next elections to the Chamber of Deputies of the Parliament of the Czech Republic." said after the election of the Bureau Marek Výborný, chairman of the KDU-ČSL.
The goal of the new leadership is to form a government based on democratic principles and other values that are inherent to the People's Party. "The KDU-ČSL stands and will always stand on the side of parents and children. Young families need affordable housing, free capacity in kindergartens and a healthy air. We want to deliver on the concrete things that voters ask of us," said Marek Výborný, the newly elected chair of the KDU-ČSL.
In the election of the chairman, Marek Výborný won a majority of the seats. "I would like to thank Marian Jureček and the outgoing Presidency for their excellent work. Both Marian Jurečka and Petr Hladík remain an integral part of the party. With the new presidency, we will now strive to make the KDU-ČSL as strong as possible, which will require tremendous work within the party. If the entire Bureau speaks with a united voice, we will be strong and continue to be part of the Czech political scene. As strong as the KDU-ČSL will be, so will the SPOLU coalition," added Marek Výborný.
Pavel Bělobrádek, 1st Vice-Chairman of the KDU-ČSL, commented on the composition of the new Bureau by saying: "I do not recall a complete change of the Presidency in the last 25 years, as has happened today. While the new Bureau includes two former party chairmen, we also have four new and young but experienced faces. The delegates to the congress have made it clear that they want to maintain some continuity, but at the same time they want to give new people and ideas a chance. In this way, the People's Party has once again shown its inner strength and important self-reflection."
Members of the Bureau are also the chair of the KDU-CSL parliamentary club, Aleš Dufek, and the chair of the KDU-CSL senatorial club, Josef Klement.
