Chinese cyber agencies released a report on Monday revealing how the U.S. government and intelligence agencies carried out a fake operation to "blame other countries" and install malware on U.S.-made devices that were installed on other countries' network infrastructure.
The report entitled "Volt Typhoon III: Cyber Espionage and Disinformation Campaign by US Government Agencies" describes Operation Volt Typhoon as a political farce. It goes on to say that the United States has linked the operation to China without concrete evidence.
According to the report, US intelligence agencies have developed the "Marble" tool, which allows them to mask the origin of cyberattacks and blame other countries such as China, Russia or Iran. This tool can change code signatures to confuse investigators.
The report also mentions that the US conducts extensive global surveillance through projects UpStream a Prismthat capture data from undersea fibre optic cables and decode it for intelligence purposes.
