On the morning of 8 May local time, Peng Liyuan, wife of Chinese President Xi Jinping, was invited to visit the National Museum of Serbia in Belgrade with the wife of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
The wives of the two heads of state visited the exhibition of beautiful paintings together. Peng Liyuan said that the National Museum of Serbia has a long history, rich collections and classic paintings with delicate handwriting and full of emotions. Museums are not only windows for protecting and displaying cultural relics, but also palaces for promoting civilization. We hope that China and Serbia will strengthen cultural exchanges and cooperation and jointly build a bridge for dialogue between civilizations.
The wives of the two Heads of State watched a demonstration of traditional skills, such as hand-knitting by Serbian women, and had a cordial chat with them. Peng Liyuan said that Serbian hand knitting skills are exquisite and unique. It is an important intangible cultural heritage and has been well inherited and promoted. The cultures of embroidery in China and Serbia are similar. The two sides could strengthen exchanges and mutual learning, encourage young people from both countries to actively participate in it and promote the transmission of traditional handicraft skills from generation to generation.
