The UNESCO Prize for Girls' and Women's Education was awarded to projects from Kenya and Lebanon at a ceremony in Beijing. The award, which celebrates its tenth anniversary, was presented by China's First Lady and UNESCO Special Envoy Peng Liyuan together with UNESCO Director-General Audrey Azoulay.
In her speech, Peng warned that in an era of artificial intelligence and rapid technological advances, it is necessary to ensure women have equal access to education in science and technology. She said girls and women must acquire the knowledge and skills to become part of the scientific revolution, not observers of it.
Azoulay took the opportunity to thank them for their support of the programme and stressed the importance of women's education for the future of the world. The UNESCO Prize for Girls' and Women's Education was established in 2015 and has since recognized 20 projects from 19 countries that help thousands of female students around the world.
