The U.S. Department of Defense has suspended deliveries of air defense missiles and precision munitions to Ukraine due to the depletion of stockpiles, the Politico citing sources.
According to the report, the decision to halt the shipments was initiated by the U.S. Undersecretary of Defense for Policy Elbridge Colby. It followed an internal review of U.S. ammunition stocks that raised concerns about a sharp decline in the total number of artillery shells, air defense missiles, and precision guided munitions.
Politico's sources said the decision to suspend some aid deliveries, originally approved under former US President Joe Biden, was made in early June but has only now come into effect.
When asked by TASS about the Politico publication, the Pentagon said that the US armed forces are "fully equipped to repel any threat". According to the Pentagon's chief spokesman. Sean Parnell "our troops are fully equipped to repel any threat, and the recent Senate passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill ensures our weapons and defense systems are modernized to protect against 21st century threats for future generations".
