President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. today spoke with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to commend South Africa for establishing a government of national unity and to congratulate him on his recent re-election by the National Assembly as President of South Africa. President Biden highlighted South Africa's legacy as a democratic leader as South Africa celebrates 30 years of democracy. The two leaders discussed South Africa's government of national unity and the commitment of all parties to work together for a growing economy, better jobs, safer communities and a government that works for its citizens. They also discussed the U.S.-South Africa bilateral relationship and areas for future partnership, including leadership within the G20. The United States and South Africa are jointly committed to deepening cooperation and advancing shared interests, including growing economic prosperity, combating the climate crisis, strengthening health systems, and ensuring that democracy delivers results for all of their people.
