President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. today declared a major disaster in the state of Massachusetts and ordered federal assistance to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts in areas affected by severe storms and flooding from September 11 through September 13, 2023.
The President's measure makes federal funding available to affected individuals in Bristol and Worcester counties.
Assistance may include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses, and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of a disaster.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for Commonwealth-wide hazard mitigation measures.
Robert V. Fogel of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been tasked with coordinating federal recovery operations in the affected areas.
A further appointment may be made at a later date if requested by the Commonwealth and justified by the results of further damage assessment.
