WASHINGTON - President Joseph R. Biden, Jr. yesterday declared a major disaster in the state of South Carolina and ordered federal assistance to supplement state, tribal and local recovery efforts in areas affected by severe storms and flooding from Nov. 6 through Nov. 14, 2024.
Federal funding is available to state, tribal, and eligible local governments and certain private nonprofit organizations on a cost-sharing basis for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by severe storms and flooding in Bamberg, Calhoun, and Orangeburg counties.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures nationwide.
Mr. Brian F. Schiller of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has been tasked with coordinating federal recovery efforts in the affected areas.
A further appointment may be made at a later date if requested by the State and justified by the results of further damage assessment.
