Chinese President Xi Jinping attended the 16th BRICS Summit on Wednesday, where he called for strengthening mutual cooperation and qualitative development of the group. During his speech, he called for building "BRICS for peace", stressing the role of BRICS countries as guardians of common security and proposing three principles to reduce tensions in the Ukraine crisis: not to spread the conflict, not to escalate the fighting and to avoid provocations.
President Xi also announced the establishment of ten overseas training centres in BRICS countries to train administrators, teachers and students. He stressed the urgency of reforming the international financial system and called on BRICS to play a leading role in these changes.
In addition, he called for the development of a "green BRICS" and the expansion of cooperation in green technologies and clean energy. Xi also expressed support for the expansion of BRICS to include new partner countries, with the aim of making BRICS a key platform for cooperation among countries of the global South and reforming global governance.
