Xi Jinping, general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, said on Wednesday that people can always rely on the Party and the government in the most difficult times.
Xi, who is also China's president and chairman of the Central Military Commission, made the remarks while visiting people affected by the 2024 summer floods in Zhujiagou village in Huludao city, located in northeast China's Liaoning province. During the visit, which took place ahead of the Chinese New Year, Xi also reviewed the progress of disaster recovery in the village.
The Chinese leader visited the village ahead of the Spring Festival, the most important event for the Chinese people, which this year fell on 29 January.
"Huludao suffered severe flooding last year. I was concerned about your problems and came to see you before the Spring Festival," Xi told the villagers.
"What I saw today fills me with relief," he added.
Xi also said that there were a number of natural disasters across the country last year and expressed confidence that recovery and reconstruction in the affected areas will yield positive results.
"We've always put people first," he said. "People can always count on the Party and the government during the most difficult times, and we will help them overcome the difficulties and rebuild their homes."
