Chinese President Xi Jinping has called for efforts to build a strong and modernized information support unit and to achieve leapfrog development of the Chinese military's information system.
Xi Jinping, who is also general secretary of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission (CMC), made the remarks during an inspection of the information support unit of the Chinese People's Liberation Army on Wednesday.
The Information Support Unit is a newly established strategic component within the framework of military restructuring. In April this year, President Xi presented the unit with a military flag and delivered a speech.
During Wednesday's inspection, Xi Jinping congratulated the unit on its first Party congress and greeted its members.
After hearing the unit's progress report, he highlighted the rapid development of technology and military innovation, emphasized the key role of the information system in modern warfare, and urged the Information Support Unit to focus on strengthening the system to enhance combat readiness.
Xi Jinping emphasized improving information services, building public network platforms and prioritizing cybersecurity. He also called for continued reforms, better coordination and strengthening of the legal framework to improve the quality and efficiency of the information system.
Xi noted that the unit is in its infancy and needs to strengthen its internal structure, adhere to the Party leadership and ensure Party discipline. He urged the unit's Party committee to improve leadership and build a professional and qualified workforce.
In conclusion, Xi Jinping appealed to the CMC to strengthen coordination, and to other government departments to work together to build an information support unit and improve the Chinese military's information system.
