The government of Prime Minister Petr Fiala is successfully fulfilling its programme declaration. It has so far fulfilled a total of 93 % of its programme by 100 percent or more than half. Among its objectives, the cabinet has managed to submit pension reform, launched a tender for the completion of the Dukovany NPP, stabilised public finances and fulfilled a number of other priorities. The main objectives for the remainder of the term include promoting higher economic and wage growth, continuing to consolidate public finances, and modernising defence and enhancing the security of the Czech Republic. Prime Minister Petr Fiala said this at a press conference on Thursday, 28 November 2024, three years after his appointment. Also speaking at the TC were First Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Vít Rakušan, Deputy Prime Minister and Health Minister Vlastimil Válek and Agriculture Minister Marek Výborný.
The Prime Minister stressed that the Government had to deal with a number of crises after taking office - the impact of the war in Ukraine, the dramatic rise in inflation, the energy crisis, the refugee wave and many others. "We have managed all the crises. I am proud of what we have done in these 3 years. We are meeting 93 percent of the goals we set in the programme declaration. Among the key priorities, we managed to submit pension reform, we launched a tender for the completion of Dukovany, we will build 200 km of new motorways. Another of my goals was to introduce electronic ID cards, and this has been achieved; there will also be an electronic version of the driving licence. A revision of the curriculum in primary and secondary schools is also in the pipeline." said the Prime Minister. The government also managed to stabilise public finances and managed to reduce the public deficit from 5.1 to 2.3 % of GDP.
The Prime Minister also mentioned the government's goals for the remainder of the term. "We have a lot of work ahead of us in the coming months. We will continue to consolidate public finances. We have two tasks ahead of us, namely to successfully pass the pension reform passed by the House through the Senate and to pass an austere but pro-investment state budget for 2025," said the Prime Minister, adding that the Government's other main goals include supporting higher economic growth and wage growth, continuing record investments in transport infrastructure, concluding the contract for the construction of two units of the Dukovany NPP, adopting a flexi amendment to the Labour Code, launching pilot testing of new framework educational programmes, and modernising defence and increasing the security of the Czech Republic.
Minister for the Interior Vít Rakušan He stressed that it is important that the people themselves feel what the government has done. "We must also make sure that, alongside large projects such as backbone communication or reform of the content of education, we do not forget about small but equally important ones. That people have to get to those backbone roads by county roads, that even in schools with innovative curriculum content someone has to cook, clean and do maintenance. Or that people need good high-speed internet coverage to access the state's digital services. And I'm glad that our government recognises that." said the Austrian.
"The Government's results are unquestionable and I am glad that the programme declaration is being successfully implemented. Our measures across the board are meeting the middle class, we are cutting unnecessary bureaucracy, digitising the agenda, vigorously promoting prevention that saves lives and investing in the future through increased funding for science and research. And in the coming months, we will also debate four key health amendments that will strengthen the accessibility and quality of healthcare. This is a clear calling card for our government." added the Minister of Health Vlastimil Válek.
"We are a government that keeps its promises and is not afraid to take reforms and steps that no one has had the courage to take so far. The pension reform was only talked about for years, but no one brought it to completion until our government, led by the People's Party. We are protecting current pensioners while guaranteeing a fair pension for future generations. We are really helping parents with children, for example, by increasing the parental allowance or by the fact that they no longer have to run around the offices - they can do everything from the comfort of their own home. In agriculture, we have set fair basic agricultural payments under the Common Agricultural Policy towards smaller farmers who have been disadvantaged in the past. We are cutting red tape for farmers and we have pushed through a raw materials policy for timber that will encourage the processing of Czech timber at home instead of exporting it abroad. We will continue to defend the interests of our citizens so that everyone has the best possible life here," said the Minister of Agriculture Marek Výborný.
