On 17 October, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with Chinese President Xi Jinping ahead of the "One Belt, One Road" forum. The Kremlin press service reported that Putin arrived at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing to attend the official welcoming ceremony of the heads of delegations participating in the forum.
The Russian leader is in Beijing for a two-day visit as part of the One Belt, One Road forum. Earlier in the day, Putin held talks with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban at his residence in Beijing. According to the Russian leader, relations between the two countries have been built on the basis of mutual interests for many years. In addition, he had a meeting with his Vietnamese counterpart Vo Van Thuong.
On the second day of the visit, the President will attend the opening ceremony of the Forum, the Russian-Chinese talks and a number of other bilateral meetings.
On October 17, the Russian president's press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that the meeting between the leaders of Russia and the PRC would see a detailed exchange of views and a comparison of notes. He added that the topic of the worsening Palestinian-Israeli conflict could come up during the meeting.
Earlier, on October 1, Putin expressed his belief that the upcoming talks with Xi Jinping during the One Belt, One Road forum would contribute to further building a range of constructive Russian-Chinese ties to ensure security and stability on the Eurasian continent and around the world.
