Russian President Vladimir Putin opened a meeting with the heads of the security forces, the Ministry of Defence, the General Staff and the Federal Security Service (FSB) on the situation in the Kursk region.
Russian Defence Minister Andrei Beloussov, Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu and FSB Director Alexander Bortnikov are attending the meeting in person, while Chief of General Staff Valery Gerasimov is participating in a videoconference format.
The Russian president announced the meeting earlier at a summit with members of the government, which was held earlier at his Novo-Ogaryovo residence near Moscow. Putin stressed, that "the Kiev regime has undertaken another large-scale provocation, indiscriminately firing various types of weapons, including rockets, at civilian buildings, residential houses, ambulances".
Earlier, Putin met with the acting governor of the Kursk region, Alexei Smirnov, and instructed government authorities to help the region's citizens. He entrusted First Deputy Prime Minister Denis Manturov with overseeing this work.
