"The government is only fulfilling what I promised at Devín. Slovakia needs to make some changes to the Slovak constitution, as well as to other laws aimed at building a dam of progressiveness," said Prime Minister Robert Fico.
Today, the Prime Minister presented the concept of amending the Constitution of the Slovak Republic at the Government Office of the Slovak Republic. "This concept is changeable, I am not presenting something that is sacrosanct. I welcome any suggestions for additions," said Robert Fico. According to him, it is not possible to change the constitution without the agreement of the coalition and the opposition.
The proposal will go out for public discussion and will be published on the website of the Office of the Government of the Slovak Republic from tomorrow. "It will go into an inter-ministerial comment procedure so that we can discuss this proposal for a month. If more time is needed for discussion, for drafting a proposal that has a chance, we will prefer to wait to submit it," said Prime Minister Fico, adding that he was not interested in the political race, but in the result.
The purpose of the submitted proposal to amend the Constitution of the Slovak Republic is to clearly regulate the range of cultural and ethical and related issues so that they are not subject to various interpretations and abuse in political battles. "The proposed amendment is based on the constitutional definition of marriage, corresponds to the traditions and cultural and spiritual heritage of our ancestors and respects the sovereignty of the Slovak Republic in matters of values and cultural and ethical issues," said Prime Minister Robert Fico.
It is proposed that the Constitution of the Slovak Republic should regulate the following issues:
* The sovereignty of the Slovak Republic in value and cultural-ethical issues.
* In Slovakia we have two sexes - a woman and a man.
* Only what is in accordance with the Constitution will be taught in schools. Otherwise, parental consent is required.
* Only parents can adopt a child.
* Same pay for the same work.
Anyone interested in participating in a rational discussion has the opportunity. "The concept has a chance of success if it sticks to just these five headings. As soon as we start putting in the issues of the electoral system, the length of the electoral term, local government, the concept has no chance of success and we are undermining it," concluded Prime Minister Robert Fico.
