MOSCOW, April 16 /TASS/. Russian forces inflicted losses on Ukrainian troops and military equipment in 133 areas during the past day as part of a special military operation in Ukraine, the Russian Defense Ministry reported on Tuesday. Russian troops occupied better frontline positions in the Donetsk region during the past day, the ministry further said.
"Operational-tactical aircraft, missile troops and artillery of the Russian force clusters destroyed ammunition and fuel depots of the Ukrainian army, workshops for the production and storage of drones, and hit the gathered live forces and military equipment of the enemy in 133 areas," the ministry said in a statement.
Russian forces have improved their positions on the front and repelled two counterattacks by the Ukrainian army in the Kupyansk region over the past day, the ministry said.
"In the direction of Kupyansk, units of the Western Battle Group improved their forward flank positions and repelled two counterattacks by assault groups of the 21st Mechanised Brigade of the Ukrainian Army near the settlement of Terny in the Donetsk People's Republic," the ministry said.
The Ukrainian army has lost about 30 personnel, two armoured fighting vehicles, a 155mm US-made Paladin self-propelled artillery system, a 155mm US-made M198 howitzer and a 152mm Msta-B howitzer in the Kupyan direction over the past 24 hours, it specified.
"In addition, a field ammunition depot of the Ukrainian army was destroyed," the ministry said.

"In the Donetsk direction, the Southern Battle Group units gained an advantageous position and caused firepower damage to personnel and equipment of the 46th Airmobile, 92nd Air Assault, 28th and 93rd Mechanised Brigades of the Ukrainian Army near the settlements of Andreyevka, Krasnogorovka, Kurdyumovka and Kleshcheyevka in the Donetsk People's Republic. The enemy losses amounted to 630 people, one armoured fighting vehicle and four motor vehicles," the ministry said.
In counter-battery fire, the Russian troops destroyed a 155mm self-propelled artillery system Paladin of American manufacture and a 155mm self-propelled artillery gun Krab of Polish manufacture, a 152mm motorized artillery system Akatsiya, a 105mm artillery gun M119 of American manufacture and a station of electronic warfare Nota, specified.

"In the southern Donetsk direction, units of the Battle Group East improved their forward flanking positions and inflicted losses of manpower and equipment on the 58th Motorized Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Army, the 108th and 128th Territorial Defense Brigades near the settlements of Lugovskoye in Zaporizhzhya Oblast, Ugledar, Urozhaynoye and Staromayorskoye in the Donetsk People's Republic," the ministry said.
It specified that the Ukrainian army had lost about 80 personnel, two motor vehicles, a Grad multiple rocket launcher, a 155mm self-propelled artillery system Krab of Polish manufacture, a 152mm D-20 howitzer and a Bukovel-AD electronic warfare station in the south of Donetsk over the past 24 hours.
Ukrainian army suffered 40 casualties in Kherson region over the past day
The Ukrainian army has lost about 40 soldiers in fighting with Russian forces in Kherson region over the past day, the ministry said.
"On the Kherson direction, the units of the Dnieper battle group inflicted fire damage to the formations of the 117th Mechanised Brigade and the 35th Marine Infantry Brigade of the Ukrainian Army near the settlements of Orechov in Zaporozhye region and Ivanovka in Kherson region. The Ukrainian army's losses amounted to 40 personnel, five motor vehicles and a US-made 155mm M777 howitzer," the ministry said.
Russian forces destroyed four US-made air targets in the last day
Russian air defence forces destroyed four US-made air targets over the past day, the ministry said.
"Over the past 24 hours, air defence assets have shot down four deceptive US-made MALD air targets and two HIMARS and Uragan multiple rocket systems missiles," the ministry said.
Russian air defenses shot down six Storm Shadow missiles over the past day
Russian air defence forces shot down six Storm Shadow cruise missiles and two HARM anti-radar missiles over the past day, the ministry said.
"Over the past 24 hours, air defence assets shot down 155 Ukrainian drones, six British-made Storm Shadow cruise missiles and two US-made HARM anti-radar missiles," the ministry said.
In total, the Russian Armed Forces have destroyed 583 Ukrainian combat aircraft, 270 helicopters, 21,292 drones, 502 surface-to-air missile systems, 15,793 tanks and other armoured combat vehicles, 1,267 multiple rocket launchers, 8,928 field guns and mortars and 21,063 special military motor vehicles since the start of the special military operation, the defence ministry said.
